Everyone know’s Don McLean’s classic American song, American Pie. Most of us can sing a verse or two, and all of us can at least sing the chorus. That’s the problem. The chorus is one of “American Pies” most misquoted lines:
Drove my Chevy to the Levee / But the Levee was dry. / Them good ol’ boys were drinkin’ whisky ‘n Rye, / Singin’, “This’ll be the day that I die”
In Don McLean’s “American Pie” they are drinking whiskey IN Rye. Don’s favourite bar in his hometown of New Rochelle, New York, The Levee, shut down so the “old boys” of New Rochelle have to drive to the next town over: Rye, New York.
